Banjuan is a form of entertainment used by scholars to promote ethics, morality and have fun in the ancient times. During the performance, one person will sing, accompanied by others, with accompaniment such as suona, erhu, cymbal, flute, clapper, horse gong, bench, and farm tools, etc. Its content is rich, which is easy to learn and sing. Furthermore, its venue is not limited. With the distinctive folk characteristics, Banjuan is widely spread. Though it is a kind of rap art, it is different from Daoqiang singing in southern Shanxi Province. The whole song of Banjuan is divided into 16 bars and 158 sentences with the rough and bold form of performance. Besides, it has beautiful singing and compact accompaniment, featuring ancient and distinctive folk characteristics. Banjuan is originated in Liu Village, Hukou Town, Ji County, where Ge Qingzao performed as early as the early Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, and then this traditional form of entertainment was almost lost due to social unrest. Fortunately, it was saved by the heir Ge Fuying, who is Ge Qingzao's grandson.
