Published online on October 15th, People's Daily Online, Xining (Jiang Ying, Yu Xinyi): The Yellow River pours down from the sky and surges forward to the east China Sea, with countless branches converged into it. Planned and organized by the People's Daily, the event,“2019 Walking Along the Yellow River -- Large-scale Media Convergence Reports of People's Daily”, will be officially launched on October 17 at the source of the Yellow River in Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, at an altitude of 4,800 meters.
The Yellow River, the mighty mother river of Chinese nation, with the total length of 5,464 km, winds its way from BaYanKaLa mountains on the Qinghai Plateau zigzagging down, running through 9 provinces (autonomous regions) of Qinghai Province, Sichuan Province, Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shaanxi Province, Shanxi Province, Henan Province and Shandong Province from the west to the east. It finally flows to the Bohai Sea. Thinking of the Yellow River, loess and yellow skin of its people, the mighty Yellow River is not only the most important source of Chinese civilization, but also the root and soul of a nation that has been nourishing generations.
In May 1999, the People’s Daily launched the first live streaming and interviewing program in China on the Yellow River, with subjects of flood control and flow cutoff, pollution, soil and water conservation, ecological construction and cultures. The program set Dongying in Shandong Province as the starting point of the journey, which was the estuary of the Yellow River, and it took them one-month moving along the Yellow River till her source. Through the page “Walking Along the Yellow River” of the People’s Daily Online, hundreds of articles, more than 100,000 words and about over 200 pictures were published simultaneously every day.
On September 18, 2019, President Xi Jinping conducted an investigation in Henan Province and summoned a meeting, where he put forward important opinions systematically about the ecological conservation and quality development of the Yellow River Basin. Mr. Xi clearly pointed out that the ecological protection and quality development of the Yellow River Basin shall be prioritized as important national strategy, which is the same important as the strategies implemented for the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. The torrential mother river of the Chinese nation is embracing new historical opportunities for development.
Collect the water of the Yellow River, visit the situation of the Yellow River and touch the heart of the Yellow River. Again 20 years later, the People’s Daily will “walk along the Yellow River” again and lead to kick off the interviewing program from the source area of the Yellow River. It will take 16 days to walk along the river from the source to the estuary, which would be organized and promoted by the reporter group consisting of editors and reporters from People’s Daily and the People’s Daily Online. The journey shall start from the source of the Yellow River and go through multiple provinces including Sichuan Province, Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regionand others, with the theme of “moderately prosperous society in all respects”. Grasping the mainstream ideas of new vision on development, quality development, ecological conservation and poverty alleviation, the group will travel along the Yellow River from the west to the east. The group walks around the Yellow River to see the development, record changes and show achievements along the Yellow River, so as to tell the authentic stories of the Yellow River, pass on the historic and cultural heritage and record the infinite possibilities in this magical region.
