Hukou battle drum is a unique art form in the traditional folk drum dance art of northern Shaanxi Province. It originated from the majestic Hukou Waterfall and spreaded in the area of Hukou Village and Gaobai Village along the Yellow River in Yichuan County, Shaanxi Province. "There is a posture like tens of thousands of islands rushing toward, and a sound like a thousand thunders shaking the ground" which is a description of the Hukou Waterfall as well as a portrayal of the Hukou drumline. Integrating dance, martial arts, and percussion, Hukou battle drum is featured with high-pitched, unrestrained, and mighty  characteristics. It expresses the pride of the offspring of the Yellow River in conquering difficulties, and also combines the optimistic, unrestrained and tenacious character of the people of the Loess Plateau.
