Hukou suona horn of Ji County is a folk drum music with a long history and rich connotation. It featured with both palace charm and loess custom. The historical materials show that during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Shi Bao, an important official who loved drum music,was banished to Ji County, where he enriched and adapted Ji County’s original tunes and made Ji County’s wind and percussion music a system of its own. Suona horn has boasted a history of more than 480 years. The related departments of Ji County have organized Suona horn performing arts activities for many times,aiming to restoring and rescuing this dying folk music project. In 2008, Hukou suona horn of Ji County was listed as an intangible cultural heritage protection project in Shanxi province.
